Ask me what my favorite thing to do (when the weather’s above 50 degrees), and I’ll probably answer, “Go for a bike ride.” Was introduced to bike touring in the mid 80’s by my (then) 65-year old parents who took me on a 500-mile jaunt through France’s Dordogne Valley. Since then, I’ve toured the Oregon Coast, San Juan Islands, Olympic Peninsula, Nova Scotia, and, just recently, the Natchez Trace Parkway. I’ve spent countless day rides on single track in Tahoe, Denver area, Bend (OR), and on road and pathway rides in Oregon, California, Colorado and Kaua`i. The whole experience gives me such joy. That happy grin on my face appears when the scenery’s sublime, the traffic is minimal, the air is fresh, and the zen of repetitive motion puts me into that zone where I just don’t want to stop. Just got back from seven days on the Natchez Trace Parkway, and am renewed to the max on the joy of bike touring.
This blog is for all those bicyclists out there who know the joy of human pedal power and what it can bring. Please share your touring and day trip experiences. Would love to know where you’ve been and what’s been outstanding.
I live in Oregon and Kauai and teach pr at a nearby university. Also manage my own pr consulting business.
