There’s the saying that, “There’s no such thing as bad weather, just bad clothes.” I’d classify some weather as purely bad when it comes to bicycling, but the truth to the adage is with the right clothes and gear, its possible to pull off a great bike ride. I’ve seen some exceptional sights on a misty, drizzly day out on my bike … blue herons swooping out over a lake, hillsides and mountains mysteriously shrouded in the light, and some spectacular rainbows. Anybody out there have a good wet-weather bike trip? What’s your favorite clothing combination?
As far as clothes, I use a rain jacket or cape with
hood in warmer wet weather, and good ol’ gortex for the cold wet weather. Full-finger gloves, wick-away tights and turtlenecks, fleece jackets or vests help, along with lighter-lens glasses or goggles. A close fitting hat under the helmet makes a difference. Fenders are a must, unless you like that muddy stripe up your derriére; and pick a route with little or no traffic. Make sure your tires have good tread.
This looks great! I recently wrote about bicycling destinations. let me know if you’d like to link exchange.
